NEET, also known as the National Eligibility and Entrance Test, is the sole examination considered for admission to approximately 54,000 medical seats nationwide. In accordance with the Supreme Court’s 2016 ruling, NEET is the exclusive exam for filling All India Quota Seats as well as State Level Quota seats across the country. The exam is also accepted for admission to private colleges throughout India.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is responsible for conducting the NEET 2018 UG exam on May 6, 2018 (Sunday). Admit cards have already been issued.
UNDERSTANDING THE ALL INDIA QUOTA SEATS
To ensure a successful completion of the NEET 2018 Application Form, it is crucial for students and aspirants to comprehend the All India Seat Quotas. Understanding these quotas will facilitate the application process. Here are the key points to consider:
- There are three types of seats available in all Medical Colleges across the country.
- Government Medical Colleges have a 15 percent All India Quota.
- Candidates from any part of the country are eligible to apply for these 15 percent seats.
- Let’s consider an example of a government medical college in State A with 100 total seats.
- Out of these 100 seats, 15 seats are exclusively reserved for the All India Quota.
- These All India Quota seats are further categorized as reserved and general.
- Among the All India Quota seats, 15 percent are reserved for SC (Scheduled Caste) candidates.
- Additionally, 7.5 percent of the seats are reserved for ST (Scheduled Tribe) candidates.
- Furthermore, 27 percent of the seats are reserved for OBC (non-creamy layer) candidates.

NEET EXAM PATTERN
In order to achieve a favorable score, candidates appearing for NEET must thoroughly prepare for the exam, which covers topics from Physics, Chemistry, Botany, and Zoology.

The paper has a duration of 3 hours. Correct answers earn 3 marks each, while wrong answers result in a deduction of 1 mark. Unanswered questions do not receive any marks or deductions.
ALL INDIA QUOTA SEATS
Having a clear understanding of the All India Seat Quotas is crucial for students and aspirants when filling out the NEET 2023 Application Form. This understanding will aid them in the application process. Here are the key points to consider:

- Let’s take an example of a government medical college in State A with a total of 100 seats.
- Out of these 100 seats, 15 seats are specifically reserved for the All India Quota.
- These All India Quota seats are further divided into reserved and general categories.
SEAT RESERVATION FOR NEET

Additionally, there is an additional horizontal reservation of 3 percent for Persons with Disabilities (PWD). If suitable candidates from the PWD category are not available, the seats are then allocated to individuals from the respective category. For example, let’s consider two students competing for the 4th seat, both belonging to the OBC category. However, one of the students also has a physical handicap. In this case, the candidate with the physical handicap would be given priority for the 4th seat over the other OBC candidate.
NEET SYLLABUS
The syllabus for NEET 2023 is determined by the Medical Council of India and comprises chapters and topics from both Class 11th and Class 12th.PHYSICS
- Class 11th : Physical world and measurement, Laws of Motion, Kinematics, Work, Energy and Power, Motion of System of Particles and Rigid Body, Gravitation, Properties of Bulk Matter, Thermodynamics, Behaviour of Perfect Gas and Kinetic Theory, Oscillations and Waves.
- Class 12th: Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Magnetic Effects of Current and Magnetism, Electromagnetic Induction and Alternating Currents, Electromagnetic Waves, Optics, Dual Nature of Matter and Radiation, Atoms and Nuclei, Electronic Devices.
CHEMISTRY
- Class 11th: Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry, Structure of Atom, Classification of Elements and Periodicity in Properties, Chemical Bonding and Molecular Structure, States of Matter: Gases and Liquids, Thermodynamics, Equilibrium, Redox Reactions, Hydrogen, s-Block Element (Alkali and Alkaline earth metals), Some p-Block Elements, Organic Chemistry-Some Basic Principles and Techniques, Hydrocarbons, Environmental Chemistry.
- Class 12th: Solid State, Solutions, Electrochemistry, Chemical Kinetics, Surface Chemistry, General Principles and Processes of Isolation of Elements, p-Block Elements, d and f Block Elements, Coordination Compounds, Haloalkanes and Haloarenes, Alcohols, Phenols and Ethers, Aldehydes, Ketones and Carboxylic Acids, Organic Compounds Containing Nitrogen, Biomolecules, Polymers, Chemistry in Everyday Life.
BIOLOGY
- Class 11th: Diversity in Living World, Structural Organisation in Animals and Plants, Cell Structure and Function, Plant Physiology, Human physiology
- Class 12th: Reproduction, Genetics and Evolution, Biology and Human Welfare, Biotechnology and Its Applications, Ecology and Environment.
POINT TO REMEMBER
During the form filling process, students will be required to indicate their preferences for both All India Quota Seats and State Level seats. The selection of seats will be based on the Merit Lists generated by CBSE. CBSE will release two separate Merit Lists: one for All India Rank and another for State Level Ranks. Students will then be invited for counseling based on their rankings. Therefore, it is crucial for students to be clear and careful while filling out the forms for NEET 2023. Understanding the seat allocation process can assist students in making informed decisions about which colleges to choose.
