What is the National Defense Academy?

The National Defence Academy (NDA) entrance exams are conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for recruitment into the Army, Navy, and Air Force wings of the NDA. These national-level exams are held twice a year—commonly referred to as NDA I and NDA II— and are essential for candidates aspiring to serve in the Indian Armed Forces.

Candidates who wish to build a career in the defence services must qualify for these exams as the first step. Following the written examination, shortlisted candidates are invited to appear for the Service Selection Board (SSB) interviews, which assess their overall personality, leadership skills, and aptitude for a career in defence.

The UPSC is solely responsible for conducting the NDA exams and laying out the selection criteria. To ensure success in this highly competitive process, aspirants can rely on Chanakya Defence Group – the best NDA coaching institute in Chandigarh. After the final result announcement, candidates’ mark sheets are made available. Candidates must then secure the NDA cutoff in both the written test and the SSB interview to proceed further.
  5. SSB Interview: The SSB interview assesses intelligence and personality and is conducted in two stages. All shortlisted candidates undergo the Stage 1 test on their first day at Selection Centers/Air Force Selection Boards/Naval Selection Boards. Candidates who pass Stage 1 move on to Stage 2. Those who qualify for Stage 2 will be asked to submit the required documents.
  6. Final Selection: Final selection to join the Army, Navy, or Air Force wings of the NDA/NA is based on performance in both the written exam and the SSB interview. The final allocation considers the candidate’s eligibility, medical fitness, and merit-cumulative preference.
